Chapter 3: When Life Makes You a Girl...

*Disclaimer: I don't own the Sailor Moon franchise. Sailor Moon is owned Toei Animation and Naoko Takeuchi. Please support the official release.*

In the backstage of the 2011 AnimeExpo, Ally Ford was having a hard time trying to find a comfortable position. It was already overcrowded, and every few seconds, another cosplayer would shift his or her weight, whether it was to avoid a moving prop or attempt to stretch their aching muscles, and cause countless others to be squished together. Speaking of which...

"Ow! Careful where you step with those things!" a female cosplayer complained.

"Sorry," Ally said. "These are my brother's boots. I can't even feel my toes in them..."

"Your brother's boots?" the girl eyed Ally's boots. "No kidding..."

Ally readjusted her gray tank top.

"Sorry about that, I'm just a little stressed out from this crowd." The girl extended her hand. "I'm Amy."
Ally accepted it. "Ally..."

"So... Lara Croft, huh?"

"Yeah. I don't play games as much as I enjoy anime, I really like Tomb Raider, and ever since I saw the new Lara in a Game Informer mag., I couldn't wait to cosplay as her... But I'm starting to wonder if I should've tried a Rikku cosplay instead."

"Why...? You look great!"

Ally smiled. "Thanks... but I'm feeling kinda outclassed here by some of the other contestants who aren't afraid to show some skin..."

"Oh, you mean like the Tifas and the 'Death Stalker's' Succubuss(s) ?" Amy waved her hand. "Don't worry about it! The contest points are geared towards more practical things like the quality of the costume, design, or cosplay performance, not how many male genitals they can stir!"

That was somebody's que: "If that was the case, they'd already have my vote!"

"Shut up, Tyler!" Amy snapped. "And quit swinging that ax around, your making me nervous!" Amy sighed as she regained her lost composure. "Besides, I can see from here that most of these cosplayers didn't put much love and devotion into making their costumes... Honestly, some of the girls here looked like they just cut up a bunch of garbage bags and super glued them together...! Oh, by the way, what do you think of mine?"

Ally looked over Amy's skin-tight costume, which to the uneducated eye would have appeared to be an open-back, purple one-piece swimsuit with white, heeled thigh boots, but the blue and white headset and the long, convincing, pink and white sectioned hair was the appearance of a certain beautiful Space Federation Investigator from an unfortunately incomplete anime and manga series original and, later, remake.

"I like it," Ally said.  "Birdy from Birdy The Mighty Decode is a favorite of mine. Not that I'd have the courage to cosplay as her, but it looks great. Really suits you."

Amy smiled and blushed, grateful for the compliment. "Thanks! I put a lot hours into making this one... Not to mention my hair took..." Amy's commentary was stopped short when Ally's cell phone went off.

Ally checked the number. "Oh... Sorry, Amy, it's my brother..."

Amy chuckled. "You think he's probably looking for his boots?"

"Jason...?"

"... Ally?"

"Yeah."

"Good... Where are you right now?"

"Umm... I'm in the middle of a crowd, waiting for my turn on stage." Ally detected something in her brother's tone. "Why? What's wrong?"

"Something...kinda bad just happened here..."

"What happened, Jason...?"

"Kyle got into your stuff and some--"

Ally, who was starting to worry for her brother's safety, suddenly changed gears. "Kyle what?! Jason, what is that womanizer doing at our house?" Ally yelled.

"I thought it'd be nice, you know, to have somebody over to entertain myself while everyone was away, so--"

"You chose, Kyle?" Ally sighed and pinched her nose. "Honestly, Jason, he better not have--"

"Ally, I need you to come home, right now."

"I can't. You're just gonna have to deal with whatever it is until I get back..."

"If you can find some way to get back sooner, please do it. We really need you here. I've never seen this before. In fact, I don't think anyone has, not officially anyway..."

Ally blinked for a moment as she assesses her brother's distressed tone. She was honestly curious about what it could be that Jason couldn't handle that he needed her for. "Did Kyle break into my kunais, Jason...?"

"Kunais? No."

"Is he bleeding or showing any life-threatening symptoms?"

"No, he's not..."

"Then I don't see why you'd need me to cancel my place in the cosplay contest in order to get home sooner..."

Ally glanced around and noticed that several people in crowd had stopped what they were doing to listen to her call.

"Look, Ally, it's... complicated, and I'd really like you to get home before mom does. I don't know how she'd react to this, and I'd rather not be alone when she gets back."

Ally glanced up with her phone at the crowd slowly funneling towards the contest stage.

"It might take a while, but I think I can make it back in time..."

"Good..."

"You better have a good reason for this."

"I do... In fact, you may want to come home sooner since you might like what you see."

"Dude, what are you implying?"

At the sound of the familiar yet unfamiliar girlish voice on the other line, Ally blinked and asked, "Jason, who was that?"

"I'll see you when you get back... Bye..."

Jason snapped his phone shut. "Okay... Ally says she'll be here before my Mom gets back. The only problem is she's in the middle of a costume contest right, now... Literally..."

"And, how long do those take?" Kyle asked.

"Depending on the amount of people participating, I'd guess it could easily delay her three or more hours."

"You mean, I gotta prance around the house for three hours looking like this?"

"I don't like the idea either, Kyle, but it's not like I have a car that I can drive over to the Expo to meet up with Ally, and, to be honest, I thought you'd be embracing this situation. It's not everyday you get turned into a real-life version of a popular character from a Japanese cartoon."

"But I'm a girl!"

"You don't sound like..." Jason paused as a suppressed snicker escaped his mouth and nose and a thin smirk appeared on his face. "Actually, you kinda do..."

"'I kinda' what, J?"

Jason glanced over at his now-female friend and finished his prior statement. "You sound like a girl, Kyle. In fact, you almost sound like Usagi Tsukino, granted having a language change and a different vocabulary."

"Well, duh! You think I'd keep my own voice after losing my manhood to some magical girl broach?"

"Well, there's been quite a few instances in movies and anime where the transformed kept their original voice despite being transformed, even though it seems disturbing for a beautiful girl to have a manly voice."

"It's disturbing enough being turned into something you're not, and I speak from experience now!"

"Come on, Kyle. It's not that bad, is it?"

Kyle raised her eyebrows. "You wanna try it? The broach is still right there. Honey, it wouldn't surprise me if those wands had the same effect. Take your pick," Kyle said, gesturing to the glass cases across the room. "Misery loves company..."

Jason shot a glance towards all the star transformation wands in the glass case behind him, his eyes lingering on the blue one for a moment before he said, "Nah, I think I'll pass on that...

Kyle sighed. "So... what do we do for the next three hours...?"

Jason thought for a moment. "Well, we could play some more Call of Duty, I suppose. You sound like you need to kill something..."

Kyle smirked. "Dough straight..."

New version is even better than the original. On a side note one of the things I have enjoyed the most about this story is seeing how much the story MGP had an influence on Don't Touch Anything.
